Nobody really expected another Porcupine Tree album, which made this one all the sweeter. Recorded quietly over a decade by Steven Wilson, Richard Barbieri and Gavin Harrison, Closure / Continuation is the trio picking up exactly where they left off: knotty prog-metal riffs, lush atmospherics and songs like "Harridan" and "Chimera's Wreck" that rank with their best. It went Top 3 in the UK. A modern prog essential.

For Opeth fans: Steven Wilson's ties to Opeth run deep. He produced Blackwater Park, Deliverance (now out in a 25th anniversary edition) and Damnation, and in 2012 he and Mikael Åkerfeldt finally made a record together as Storm Corrosion. Dark, pastoral and gorgeously strange, it's the missing link between both bands, and the perfect next stop if this one gets its hooks in you.
